From Horsepower to Horsepower of a Different Kind!

Kamila employs her skills as an Electrical Engineer at our aftersales operation, Solomon BodyGuard to enhance cold chain fleet durability, but she didn’t always plan on working in the commercial vehicle industry.

Her journey began in the equestrian world, where she studied horses for three years at college with the hope of building a career. However, after struggling to find a full-time role in the field, she decided it was time to look for something different.

Mechanics had always interested her, but at 21, Kamila realised that learning on her own wasn’t enough. So, she went back to college and enrolled in a Level 2 Motorsports course focused on the maintenance of light vehicles.

As part of the course, she was required to complete two weeks of work experience, which quickly turned into a long-term contract. The work was different from what she expected: not cars, but HGVs and electrical systems. To her surprise, she really enjoyed it. That’s when her passion for working with electrics truly began.

Now at Solomon Commercials, Kamila’s career continues to grow.

“It’s really good here,” she says. “Everything’s well organised, and everyone’s genuinely kind. I work independently a lot, but I’m never really on my own. If I’m lifting something, even if it’s not heavy, the guys always offer to help. That kind of support means a lot.”

There’s also a creative side to the work that Kamila enjoys.

“There’s something satisfying about finishing a job and seeing it all come together. Working around these huge trucks and all the cables, sometimes it feels like I’m on a film set!”

“I like everything to look clean and tidy, especially the cabling,” she adds. “I’ve got small hands, which works in my favour when I need to thread cables through tight spaces. That’s my one physical advantage over the guys!”

We are hugely impressed with Kamila’s journey so far, her ability to change her mindset and build a new career is inspiring.

As one of our Electrical Engineers, she’s responsible for installing, maintaining, and testing electrical systems in all our vehicles, ensuring reliable performance that meets the highest industry standards.

Looking to the future.
