1976 - Foundations of Innovation
Solomon Commercials is founded by Ray Solomon in Bacup, Lancashire, a sole trader specialising in refrigerated bodywork for commercial vehicles.
1989 - Scaling Up
To support growing demand, the company relocates to a larger facility in Haslingden, strengthening its manufacturing capabilities.
2003 - Expanding Facilities
Expansion continues with the purchase of the Kingsway site in Haslingden, which becomes the company’s specialist finishing and manufacturing centre.
2006 - Pioneering Home Delivery
Solomon pioneers in the grocery home delivery sector by developing refrigerated vehicles tailored to the unique needs of this rapidly emerging market.
2011 - Aerodynamic Breakthroughs
Innovation drives efficiency with the launch of Slipstream designs across the rigid range, delivering aerodynamic solutions to help customers combat rising fuel costs.
2011 - Enhancing Production Capacity
The acquisition of the Carrs chassis site further enhances production capacity and capability.
2012 - Entering New Markets
Solomon takes its first steps into international markets, supplying home delivery vehicles into Europe.
A new urban trailer product is launched, designed specifically for the convenience store sector, showcasing agility in addressing evolving customer needs.
2013 - Efficiency Redefined
Slipstream designs rolled out to the home delivery range, setting new standards for efficiency and cementing Solomon Commercials position in this fast-growing sector.
2016 - Market Leadership
Solomon Commercials now spans four sites, with over 200,000 sq ft of manufacturing space across 20 acres, positioning Solomon Commercials as one of the UK’s largest and most advanced refrigerated vehicle manufacturer.
2017 - Customer Care Innovation
Solomon invests in a dedicated site for Solomon Bodyguard – the company’s aftersales service, ensuring continued support and reliability for customers nationwide.
2019 - Driving Sustainability
A milestone in sustainability: Solomon introduces recycled plastics into body panel insulation, reducing environmental impact while maintaining industry-leading performance.
2020 - Investing in the Future
Investment in the future accelerates with a new Haslingden facility and over £1 million invested in cutting-edge machinery, boosting efficiency and capacity.
2021 - Record Growth
Continued growth sees Solomon invest more than £2 million into its Haslingden headquarters while expanding into Darwen. With over 240,000 sq ft of production space, the business manufactures around 3,500 vehicles annually – leading the way in cold chain vehicle innovation and reliability.
2025 - Expansion
