Solomon Commercials, has completed and delivered a purpose built 7.5-tonne temperature-controlled truck for McClure Ltd, the trusted family owned foodservice supplier serving the North of England and beyond.

The bodies incorporate the latest aerodynamic technology for refrigerated transport vehicles, our aerodynamic product, to maximise fuel efficiency. The units incorporate Carrier Supra 850 MT units and a Dhollandia tail lift that has a capacity of 1500kg.

Built on a DAF LF 45 chassis, the new vehicle has been engineered to enhance both the efficiency and reliability of McClure’s cold chain operations, supporting their extensive network of hospitality, retail, and catering clients.

Designed for Demanding Foodservice Logistics.

With McClure’s delivering a broad range of chilled, ambient, and frozen goods daily from fresh produce and dairy to frozen meats and specialty items the vehicle was designed with flexibility, hygiene, and temperature integrity at its core.

To meet the rigorous demands of food distribution, the vehicle has been engineered with a range of specialised features that prioritise temperature control, hygiene, and delivery efficiency.

At the heart of the system is the Thermo King V800 Max Spectrum unit, providing reliable multi-temperature refrigeration. This allows McClure’s to transport both chilled and frozen goods simultaneously, ideal for mixed-load deliveries across diverse customer sites. Inside the insulated body, a movable and stowable bulkhead offers flexible compartmentalisation, giving drivers the ability to adjust internal layouts based on daily delivery volumes and product types.

Access and loading have also been optimised. The vehicle features a dual door configuration, including triple rear doors and a double-hinged nearside access door. This setup improves delivery speed and reduces cold air loss during frequent stops. To further maintain internal temperatures, air curtains are installed at both side and rear apertures, helping to preserve product quality and minimise thermal disruption.

The interior is fitted with non-slip aluminium flooring and full load restraint tracking, ensuring goods are transported safely, with minimal risk of damage or cross-contamination. Completing the system is the Thermo King TouchLog temperature monitoring and printer, which supports food safety compliance and provides accurate, real-time digital traceability for every journey.

Together, these features make the vehicle a highly capable and compliant food distribution asset, ideal for McClure’s customer-first approach and fast-paced delivery operations.

Slipstream Aerodynamics That Drive Efficiency

In addition to refrigeration performance, the build integrates a full aerodynamic package designed to reduce drag, increase fuel efficiency, and lower emissions.

The aerodynamic features include:

  • A 3D cab roof deflector with integrated catwalk, streamlining airflow over the vehicle body.
  • Fixed side streamers to reduce turbulence between the cab and body, improving stability and efficiency.
  • Precision body alignment and smooth finish to reduce wind resistance during motorway and rural driving.
  • These enhancements not only support reduced fuel consumption, but also contribute to McClure’s sustainability objectives across their food distribution network.

“ Working with McClure’s is always a privilege, they’re a business that truly understands the value of quality and reliability, both in the products they deliver and the equipment they rely on,” said Matthew Jones, Sales Manager at Solomon Commercials.
“ Every detail, from the multi-temperature capability to the aerodynamic enhancements, was carefully designed to support McClure’s outstanding service and long-standing reputation in the foodservice industry.”

McClure’s, founded in 1945, has built a reputation over 80 years as a family-run wholesaler rooted in quality, service, and community. This latest addition to their fleet reflects a continued investment in infrastructure that puts customer needs and food integrity at the forefront.

The vehicle has been delivered with full Whole Vehicle Type Approval and is now in operation across McClure’s northern distribution routes.
